The Black Nerd: The Silent Gate Keepers Of Black Society

I want my daughters to be nerds! I mean really nerdy ass geeky smart black girls because cool kids get into too much trouble. I want my daughters to be a bunch of no perm having, ugly dress wearing, overbite but I don’t give a fuck little Michelle Obama’s. I don’t want to have to be chasing their fast asses around trying to make sure they are out getting into mischief with these knuckle head niggas in the streets. I don’t want them watching MTV and BET and feeling like that’s what they are suppose to measure up to and that that’s how they are suppose to walk, talk, dress and think like my little nimrod sister does.

One of my sisters is bizarre introvert klepto nerd with an obsessive whining disorder but at least she’s not a runner, and most likely her socially changed bizarre superman ass will end up being a lawyer or something successful along those lines.

While my other sister is a halfway emo skinny jean wearing weed smoking Rihanna clone (even down to the hair cut) with the figure of a 12-year old boy and she’s quite fast. She may very well be a runner for all I know and I ain’t talking about like Jackie Joyner-Kersee. She lives her life based on how MTV, BET & Lil Weezy show her how to behave and lets that influence and ultimately determine her priorities in life. She dates these knuckle head played out thug-type niggas that think they are Game or some other equivalent gang-affiliated rapper. She lets these pea brains who can’t see the forest from the trees be the guiding light in her life and none of us (her family) really know what she’s going to turn out to be. Is she going to get over this faze and become a functioning member of society or is she going to be another confused bitter black woman 25 with 3 kids, low self worth trying to hit the club at get impregnated by a rich nigga or ball player? Only time will tell.

For this reason I want my daughters to be nerds especially now that the Obama’s put the black nerd on the map, a traditionally underrepresented group. The black nerd never get their just do, never get a shout out on a T.I song, never get their own reality show like Real Chance At Nerd or I Love Nerd-York. You never see the nerds in the music videos balancing puffy’s balance sheet why he’s poppin’ bottles and pouring champagne on strippers asses. The black nerd has been the rock of the black community for longer that you would imagine yet they have been underrepresented in the media for sure and often shunned as being unauthentic. But the fact remains that though all this they have held the black community together (literally) through our many ups and downs.

The black nerd is all around you. They’re the brother of the cool kid (that he never talked about) that grows up to an accountant and takes care of the family while the cool brother knocks up 3 or 4 chicks and can’t keep a steady job at 30 and finally settles down with an Asian woman and moves to Glendale. The black nerds are the lawyers and businessmen and women in those high rises downtown doing all the work while their white bosses take all the credit (I Think I Love My Wife for more info). They’re the community organizers that actually get shit done in the inner city while the popular niggas is still spending their days scheming on how to get money without actually getting a job or holding on to their NBA pipe dreams. The black nerd's running for city council because he’s tired of the dismal conditions in his neighborhood while the cool are spending what little money they do have fixing up their 64 so they can cruise up and down the shaw (Crenshaw Blvd for my slang impaired readers) living out their rap music video fantasies in their head. While so many of these niggas is on MySpace wearing rags on their face throwing up gang signs or doing their best little Wayne impressions, the black nerd is hitting the books hard on his way to medical school. The doctors, nurses, lawyers, accountants, administrators, councilmen, community organizers, business owners, CEO’s and Teachers these are the black people that keep us a float but you won’t see them on the cover of Vibe or even being fairly represented on TV or in movies. They’re not doing glamorous thing or in search of the spotlight they’re not in their moms basement with fruity loops missing work trying to write the next “Ay Bay Bay” or “Lean Wit It Rock Wit It”. They’re at work “on time” getting it done, talking care of the business so that the rest of these knuckle can fuck around till they’re 30 trying to act like the mutha fuckas they see on TV and listen to on the radio before they get serious about life. They’re holding it down while you’re fuckin’ around.

The black nerd is nothing like the black people you see on TV and for good reason. If our entire races was as one dimensional as we are represented in the media then we would collapsed as a society a long time ago. Black people are far more than rappers, actors and ball players though those are our only representatives on TV. And with the death of the Black sitcom what are the young generation who are essentially raised by TV to think of themselves and their place in society? Can’t be much when TV shows like the Cosby’s and Fresh prince have been replaced by shows like Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is (that ghetto mess) and Doggy Fizzle Televizle further limiting the spectrum of diverse black images in the media. Common said it best as he talked about his daughter after the Obama’s was elected "2 years ago, my daughter wanted to be a dancer. Now she says she can be the next president.” Rise black nerds rise!!!!!

And personally I’m excited to see the black nerd charging to the forefront of black society, because it’s about damn time that black societies silent gatekeepers finally have a voice, even if it is boring and non-threatening.

Vibe Magazine Sucks!

This issue of Vibe arrived at my door last night and I damn near threw up!

If Plies is the Future of Rap, then put me out of my misery and kill me now!

Its clear that Vibe knows nothing about rap whatsoever, the talent gap between Plies and the Jay-Z's, Luda's, Ye's and Lupe's of the world is monumental. Plies is in the bottom Tier of rappers, he cant even get on songs with todays heavy hitters, he cant even rap on beat most of the time, so how the fuck is he the future of rap??? Nigga Please!

The whole Vibe staff needs to be bitch slapped for this cover!

Sick & Tired Of This Fuckin' Election (It Can't End Soon Enough!)

I can’t wait for this election to be over. I am growing so tired of McCain supporters making racist comments and ludicrous accusations about Obama. I understand that so many people in this country’s very survival is based on racism and inequality. And it’s those Americans that fear that a black president will somehow loosen their strong hold on their position in society. But the fact of the matter is a black president isn’t going to destroy the mechanism of white privilege, so racist and bigots have no fear!

With or without a black president white privilege is sown deep into the fabric of the very foundation of America and its going to take a lot more than 1 black president to uproot that. Whites in America will continue to get first crack at jobs over their obviously more qualified non-white counterparts. Whites will continue to get slaps on the wrist for crimes that non-whites would get 5-10 for. White celebrities will continue to be caught with illegal drugs and then sentences to community service while over crowded jails around the nation are full of non-whites convicted on non-violent drug offenses. Whites in America will continue to get the benefit of the doubt in every given situation regardless of how red handed they're caught, while non-whites are inevitably guilty until proven innocent. With all that said I am disgusted at the blatant and outright racism I have seen displayed by some Americans over these last few months, disgusted! This election cannot end soon enough for me. And I PRAY that when this election is over the voices of these racist McCain supporters will fade into the background.

I can’t stress enough how disappointed I am that Americans are not above this sort of primitive behavior. We have the nerve to call our self the greatest and most civilized nation (while turning up our nose at the rest of the world) but in reality many of us are not very civilized at all. Everyone who has stepped up to voice their racist opinion and hate driven lies about Obama should be ashamed of themselves. And again I just cannot wait till this fucking election is over; this election though historic has put a huge spotlight on some of the ugliest parts, people and ideas in this nation. And I’m ready for that spotlight to cut off, indefinitely. If I had my way I’d turn everyone the same color (golden brown) and teach some of these mutha fuckas a lesson, how you gone be racist when we all look the same?

Obama 08. Change.

A Naive Young White Woman

Sometimes its hard for us to as black people (and people of color as a whole) to accept the fact that some white people JUST DON'T GET IT. Will Smith said Parents Just Dont Understand, I say (some) Whites Just Dont Understand. They are just naive and sheltered from the real world. When they look out into a world of white privilege and open doors they just don't realize that there are truly 2 America's.That blacks and all people of color in this country are treated as second class citizens by the government, the judicial system, businesses, colleges, the police and many times by the same whites themselves that believe we are all just one big happy nation working and playing together in equality. Kum Bi Ya my Ass! This sort of naiveness (a word I use in an attempt to not call her and others like her ignorant) and blindness to the true realities of this country upset me to an unmeasurable degree. How someone can live in a world for 25+ years and never truly see it for what it is, is beyond me. But what adds insult to injury for me is how these naive individuals are the first people to engage in long drawn out arguments defending their naive and unrealistic point of views. I hope that the topic of race and inequality continues to be explored on a mainstream level for years to come, so that naive white people like her can finally start to take off their blinders and see this country for what is truly is, for better or for worse.

Independence Day Ba Humbug!!!!!!!

I'm not really to interested in celebrating the 4th of July. Simply because my people weren't given our independence on July 4th, we were given our independence on December 6, 1865 when the 13 Amendment was ratified. The previous Emancipation Proclamation was a half ass effort by a desperate Lincoln searching for a way to win The Civil War. The Emancipation Proclamation it self did not free all slaves, it declared free only those slaves that had already escaped the southern slave states and migrated to the northern states, hence it only freed already freed slaves (so they could join the Union Army and Navy, subsequently turning the tide in the war). It wasn't until the 13 Amendment was ratified years later that slaves were truly declared free, but even after it was ratified, Mississippi the lone rogue state refused to sign the Amendment until 1995, talk about being arrogant with your racism...reason number 36 while you'll never catch me living in punk ass Mississippi.

But my question is why isn't my peoples independences relevant enough to be considered a National Holiday? After all that blacks have done for America, we built this country from the cotton fields up, we're even about to see our first Black president but no Black Independence Day??? That's some bullshit for real. I shouldn't ever have to go to work on December 6th again, it should be a paid holiday because we all know Blacks have paid the price in this country and even today we continue to.

The Shut The Fuck Up Award!!!

****Just a funny little side note, I noticed that I have said the word fuck 24 times, and Nigga 36 times on the front page of this blog in various articles****

In light of Young Jeezy's most recent ignorant statements in conjunction with many other stupid ass statement that have been said in the media recently, I have decided to create the "Shut The Fuck Up" Award.

This award goes to the person that says some dumb ass shit they should have kept to themselves.

This weeks award goes to Snoop Dogg. Even at almost 40 yrs old this hip hop legend continues to be the living embodiment of the most ignorant and ugly part of black people. And a continuous embarrassment to us all. Cheers.

His most recent statement to Esquire magazine goes a little something like this....

“A lot of people like to fool you and say that you’re not smart if you never went to college, but common sense rules over everything. That’s what I learned from selling crack.”

So you learned common sense from a crime that if convicted (of dealing 5 grams), even first-time offenders automatically get sentenced to five years in prison????? Seriously, will someone please powder me, I feel a bitch slap comin' on.

Other Notable Ignorant Statements:

"The KKK gave Obama money. They was one of his biggest supporters ... Why wouldn't they be? The media won't tell you that. They don't want you to know that. They just want you to know that this Nigga befriended this other Nigga who be threatening your values."

[ Snoop Dogg to British newspaper The Guardian, April 2008]

Some Nigga's Are Better Off Just Shuting The Fuck Up...*Hint* Young Jeezy!

So Young Jeezy met presidential hopeful and dinosaur John McCain on the set of SNL and had this to say about their encounter.
“I told him the ‘hood was f**ked up, and he was like, ‘How you doing?’” Jeezy told MTV.com. “Real talk. They know entertainers, so they shake your hand [and say], ‘I’m your friend.’ But my mama is about to have surgery that I gotta pay for out of my pocket because she can’t get insurance. I don’t really feel McCain. It ain’t just because Barack is black; he can make change. Just like Bush equals recession, Barack equals progression. I really feel that, all bullsh** aside. He’s gotta come in and keep it right. I be in the ‘hood every day, and I motivate the thugs. [Barack] motivates me.”
Will someone please slap the shit out of Young Jeezy! You motivate the Thugs and Barak motivates you? What the fuck is that? How the fuck is Jeezy going to trying to associate Obama with the stupid ass ignorant thug nonsense he promotes. If Obama really motivated Jeezy , he would be delivering the people something better than Thug Motivation. This ignorance has to stop. Fuck Young Jeezy (yeah I said it!) for even trying to bring up Barak's name and associate his ignorant self destructive world that Jeezy sounds himself with. Fuckin bitch!

Its bad enough that Jeremiah Wright's statements were used against Obama (as if he was the one who said them) bringing him unnecessary bad publicity, NOW we got Jeezy opening his stupid ass mouth trying to drag Obama down in the mud with him. Black on Black crime, its a damn shame.

Nigga, Nigga, Nigga, Nigga, I Say It A Hundred Times Every Morning, It Makes My Teeth White!

WARNING IF YOU ARE NOT ACCUSTOM TO HEARING HOW REAL BLACK PEOPLE TALK THEN YOU MAY WANT TO STOP READING NOW, BECAUSE WHAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO READ IS SOME REAL SHIT THAT MAY NOT SIT WELL WITH YOU IF YOU ARE NOT USED TO ENCOUNTERING SUCH HIGH LEVELS OF REALNESS.....

"(White folks upset at blacks for saying Nigga) Nigger stop saying Nigger, Im getting a Nigger headache, Stop it! White folks ya shouldn't have made up Nigga. I didn't make it up, its too bad, I say NIGGA a hundred times every morning, it makes my teeth white, Nigga, Nigga, Nigga, Nigga, Nigga, I aint scared of that word "

-Paul Mooney, Legendary Comedian

First and foremost if you not black don’t say nigga. If you say nigga and someone gets offended then don’t say shit when they kick your wonderful loving and respectful ass! If you go around and say shit that offends people with reckless abandon then you deserve to get your ass kicked. The reason to not say the N word (as if you need one) if you are not black is simply because it offends black people. If we use it amongst ourselves that’s cool, but just because we use it DOES NOT mean that you can too. Its bad enough that the way we walk, the way we talk, the way we dress and the way we wear our hair is copied daily by non blacks, well guess what the bucks has got to stop somewhere and it’s at Nigga. Its cool if you’re a wigga (look it up on urbandictionary.com) that dresses black, talks black, wears cornrows and dates black girls but don’t get it twisted none of that give you a pass to say the N word.

And don’t listen to your black friends gas you up saying its cool for you to say it because if you slip up and say it around a real ass nigga such as myself expect to be visiting the E.R moments later. I shall reiterate, If you are not black do not say the N word unless you are prepared to deal with the consequences and I don’t think you are. Because it offends black people when non blacks called them nigga, and offended black people are prone to go into a blind rage and kick ass!!!

Ok, now here's the real reason why I am posting this blog, the intro was just a disclaimer to those reader who do not know about the proper usage of the word nigga. And the story begins with me on therundown.tv watching the new nas video "Be A Nigga Too" and while everyone is talking about how great a video it is, some confused ass nigga hops on there woofing about how its so bad that black people use the word nigga and what not and writes this whole novel on it. Making a bigger deal of it than what it is. I'm tired of stupid ass black people throwing a fit over a word and losing site of the real issues. These fucking house nigga piss me the fuck off! Wasn't no niggas running around screaming about how we should stop saying nigga until the white man couldn't call us that anymore, now that it aint cool for them to say it (publicly) anymore, now we got to stop too?? Nigga Please! What they do don't dictate what the fuck I do, Ima Do Me! Do you know why they weren't worried about it back in the day because they had bigger fish to fry like fighting for equality, and even today we have bigger fish to fry. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that nigga is the classiest word in the black vocabulary but we as a people have bigger fish to fry. So with that said this is what I wrote in response to this confused girls shenanigan's!

People always crying about black people using the N word among themselves when there are a million other more important issues that are holding back blacks in america. Im tired of people spending all this damn energy fight a fuckin word, its reality thats kicking my black ass! But those people are just lost, so let me offer some clarity.

All these people out here worried about blacks using the N word among themselves, if yall really care about the state of black people in this country yall would get the hell out there and start getting involved in things that will make a difference; and once you have tackled the top 50 issues that plague the black community then you can dust your hands off and focus on "Issue plaguing the black community #51: the N word and our social usage of it". Get a f*cking grip on reality will you PLEASE?????

You are far too busy focusing on bull sh*t to see the real issues, let me spell a few of them out for you smart ass.....

1. Blacks are getting paid 41% less than whites all the way across the board

2. Schools in the inner city are under-funded and providing black students with an inferior education that is not preparing them to succeed in the always changing job market let alone college.

3. Doctors get paid by medicare and insurance company's less to work in low income areas than they would get in areas with higher income to do the same procedure. The prospective reimbursement system that all doctors live on to operate is ridiculously skewed driving good doctors out of poor neighborhoods, so even if black doctors wanted to come back to the hood, the system is set up so that they would be making less than their colleagues to do so.

4. Then you have the judicial system that disproportionately over sentences blacks for the same crimes whites do creating crowded prisons over populated with black men that when released have a criminal record and little hope of getting a really good job. Leaving them prey for the revolving door syndrome that plagues many inmates after they are released.

5. How about police brutality?? F*ckin Sean Bell happens every F*ckin day!! The police are out of control they just killed another unarmed nigga in inglewood (where I live) the other day. And are they going to Jail? No! The police kill niggas like f*ckin cattle and the sh*t is swept under the rug. Go to your congressmen and demand change, set up a protest. Lobby to get legislation changed to prosecute these bastards.

6.....shall I go on?? The N word being used amongst ourselves is inconsequential to the struggle, cant you f*ckin see that??? So next time you wanna spend you energy talking about some shit that aint important you better look at the real f*cking issues idiot!

Video: Black People In South Beach Cause Barack To Lose This Woman's Vote. God Bless Intelligent Americans!

There should be a point in a person's life where they're deemed to senile to vote, its obvious that this woman has reached that point. But no worries, just like the old geezer that made those racist "Curious George" Obama T-shirts last month in Georgia, (it would appear) they're the last of dying breed; to stuck in their old ways and ideology to embrace change. When the last of these people (I finally get to use that phrase agianst them. lol) die off, I will gladly be the pallbearer. My suites already pressed up and ready to go, I'm just waiting on the call.

Hip Hop 1: The State of Rap Music Today: Awful & Disheartening!

As anyone who has been reading this blog or even remotely knows me, I am a connoisseur of music in general and especially first and foremost in my heart a hip-hopatarian. One of those hardcore die-hard hip-hop fans that was born into the hip hop era, and through out my upbringing hip hop has been one of many things that contributed to shaping the very fabric of my being. So consequently I have a lot feelings about hip hop from past to present, feelings about where it is today as an art form and what looms for hip hops future. I thought I would be able to write one great blog that would sum it all up but I as I set out to write this blog I realized that to truly write on the complex multi-dimensional medium that is hip hop it would take a series of blogs to truly get everything out that I had to say. And so we begin...

Rap music is sad at this point I must say! Nas may have proclaimed emphatically that “Hip Hop is Dead” most recently in 2006 but
Common was already mourning Hip Hop's demise in 1994 with "I USED TO LOVE H.E.R"

“But once the man got you well he altered the native
Told her if she got an energetic gimmick
That she could make money, and she did it like a dummy
Now I see her in commercials, shes universal
She used to only swing it with the inner-city circle
Now she be in the burbs lickin rock and dressin hip
And on some dumb shit, when she comes to the city”

“Stressin how hardcore and real she is
She was really the realest, before she got into showbiz
I did her, not just to say that I did it
But Im committed, but so many niggaz hit it
That shes just not the same, lettin all these groupies do her”

From “selling out” to the “oversaturation of the industry” where everyone who can rhyme a few words feels like they're qualified to become a rapper. All of these things have contributed to propelling hip hop to where it is today, a sad shell of its former self. Oh how the rap game has fallen far from grace....

Jay also had something to say about the state of hip-hop as he explained perfectly in 2003’s Miss You(Remix)

"Big we missing you, Pac we missing you
We feel your presence just not in the physical
All across the world, blocks is miserable
Y'all left a void it's a lot of little you’s
But they not original and they not identical
They just studied your flows and they watched your interviews
That's when hip hop if it's not ten of you
Then it gotta be more, y'all left your paws
Footprints on the game, hood ain't been the same
Feeling ain't been in music, hooks ain't been the same
Pac they use your name in vein
But I guess that's the issue
And it proves how much, niggas really miss you"

I am beginning to wonder, if there some correlation between the demise of hip hop and sudden rise in the amount of black people wearing skinny jeans and dressing like Emo’s. Is yesterday’s throwback jersey wearing, fake chain sporting hip hop fan tomorrow’s skinny jean wearing, tight shirt sporting Emo????

I can say that I started to see this trend emerge about a year or so ago. I go to Up Against The Wall a hip hop clothing store out in Los Angeles pretty frequently and I started to notice that the clothing selection started to look more and more like something you would see in Hot Topic or like something from the wardrobe selections of a member of Fall Out Boy or My Chemical Romance.

But Hey, It could just be a coincidence that we got black people dressing like Emo’s and white kids in Milwaukee on myspace wearing dew rags and staking caps referring to themselves as “gansta ass niggas”…

But I have to say that the demise of rap is unquestionably in the hands of the artists themselves, rap music is so sad at this point that there is only a few rappers that are even kinda sorta making rap still remotely interesting…..

50 cent’s last album was exactly what he said it was on Hot 97 Radio earlier this week “A Dud” and with him busy counting his Vitamin Water money, I suspect that the “Get Rich Or Die Trying” 50 Cent is long gone.

Ludacris hasn’t been out in over a year and his last album which dropped in 2006, didn’t really make the usual Luda impact. It was nice but not the usual spectacular effort we’d come to expect from him.

Lil Wayne is dope and very creative, his mixtape songs and guest appearances are great but his last few singles have been lackluster. And the self proclaimed Best Rapper Alive hasn’t really put out a “great” album in since The Carter (2004)

Jay-Z is making this list merely due to the lack of available candidates, his last two albums really exposed to me that he isn’t the rapper that he once was, but still a better listen than Souljah Boy, Yung Joc, Rick Ross or Flo Rida. I don’t wanna bash Jay-Z because that’s my boy, I’m a huge fan but the material speaks for itself, his hearts just not in it the way it used to be.

Outkast is certainly keeping it interesting despite the fact that they haven’t dropped a full length album in I don’t know how long.

Kanye West has just dropped arguably the best rap album of the year and is constantly hitting us with classic records, he’s by far the “hottest” rapper out based on quality of full-length albums, hit songs and records sales (and really the only one in second hasn’t released a great full length album since 2004, Weezy). Kanye West himself is a great story considering how many labels played his rap skills to the left.

Common dropped “Finding Forever” last year which was great album though songs like “Party Like A Rock Star” by the gone never to be seen again boyz and “Pop Lock and Drop it” got twice as much radio and video airplay.

Lupe Fiasco just dropped his 2nd album with little promotion as usual, looks like his label is destined to let his sophomore album share the same fate as his debut album…400K and out.

Talib Kweli dropped one of his best albums in years last year but his label didn’t do much to help. I heard 1 or 2 singles, saw one video and that was it. Booooo Warner Bro’s for not giving Talib a chance to make it interesting by giving his music the necessary exposure to have the opportunity to breathe some life into a dying (better yet) Dead Rap Game.

And lastly we got
Joe Budden, his Mood Muzik 3 mixtape is classic but his album got pushed back several times, now he’s not even on Def Jam anymore. So who knows when’s the next time we will see a full length Joey album.

Shit even
Might Mos Def is singing now, WTF

And out of all these artists most of the so-called “Hit” records from last year were dominated not by Hip Hops heavy hitters, but by half-talent over produced no-rapping ass one hit wonders that struggles to move over 500,000 units even with 5000+ spins a week reaching an audience of 41 million listeners.

Examples: Shop Boyz, Souljah Boy, Mims, Lil Boosie, Hurricane Chris, Jim Jones, Huey, Rich Boy, DJ Unk & Plies....All sub-par and all secured Billboard Number #1 Hits and a place among the Top 15 most played songs of 2007.

In case your wondering,
TI and Kanye West just missed the Top 15 Most Played but they were in the Top 25.

I think the failure of rap is a collective failure for everyone involved. The A&Rs for bringing these disgraceful artists to the labels, the Labels for signing and OKing the budgets to produce this nonsense, the Executive Producers and Label Heads for saying the music they are producing is satisfactory and putting it out. And lastly the rappers themselves for creating this transparent bullshit music. They don’t even deserve the title of an artist, there ain’t nothing artistic about saying “Its so hot in the club, I ain’t even got no shoes on” C’mon now, you have to have been able to think of something better to say than that. Rap is fucking wack, it’s a sad day. As a Hip-Hopatarian I am deeply saddened by the state of Rap music.

"Cocaine Is A Hell Of A Drug"

DMX (Dark Man X, more like Drug Man X)

So I read that DMX on a hip hop website that DMX had this to say about Barak Obama in a recent XXL interview....

Are you following the presidential race?

DMX: Not at all.

You’re not? You know there’s a Black guy running, Barack Obama and then there’s Hillary Clinton.

DMX: His name is Barack?!

Barack Obama, yeah.

DMX: Barack?!

Barack.

DMX: What the fuck is a Barack?! Barack Obama. Where he from, Africa

Yeah, his dad is from Kenya.

DMX: Barack Obama?

Yeah.

DMX: What the fuck?! That ain’t no fuckin’ name, yo. That ain’t that nigga’s name. You can’t be serious. Barack Obama. Get the fuck outta here

You’re telling me you haven’t heard about him before.

DMX: I ain’t really paying much attention. I mean, it’s pretty big if a Black…
Wow, Barack! The nigga’s name is Barack. Barack? Nigga named Barack Obama. What the fuck, man?! Is he serious? That ain’t his fuckin’ name. Ima tell this nigga when I see him, “Stop that bullshit. Stop that bullshit” [laughs] “That ain’t your fuckin’ name.” Your momma ain’t name you no damn Barack.

Some people were shocked to hear DMX say things like this……

My Synopsis:

Everyone knows (or should know by now) DMX smokes crack and has been caught with Crack by police, more than once (just like Linsey Lohan with coke). The first time was May 2000 then again at JFK Airport in July 2004. If you ever watched his show DMX: Soul Of A Man (on BET) he admitted that he had in fact became addicted to crack after one of his friends gave him a laced marijuana joint without telling him. So being that he is a "crack head" ignorant statements like this, should come as no surprise to any of you. And for the record I am a huge DMX fan…Its Dark and Hell is Hot and FlesH oF My Flesh are 2 of my favorite CDs of all time. The man's the 6th highest selling rapper of all time and was voted one of the top 25 MC's of all time….but I gotta call a spade a spade, dudes a crack head and he's acting as such. DMX go to sleep. This is one of the most significant (black) political moments in history of this country and X don’t even know its happening. DMX needs to go to sleep with that shit. In the words of Rick James "Cocaine Is a Hell of a Drug". Case Closed.

Just My Thoughts

For those that don’t know I currently work at MySpace.

Man, I see some shit on MySpace…..Its part of my job to review the content on thousands of pages and I see some shit boy .

Devil worshippers, Porn stars, Racists all types of shit. But the shit that trips me out is these young kids. I be seeing little 14 yr old white and Asian kids referring to themselves as niggas, like what?

I be seeing little 14 years olds talk about they’re bisexual or they looking for their one true love…or how they tired of getting their heart broken. They putting up half naked picks of themselves, talking about smoking weed. Using all types of profanity, words I wouldn’t think they even knew and I’m like WTF? Mutha fucka you only 14…what the fuck do you know about love or being bisexual or sex in general (have you even had Sex-Ed yet?) you better go somewhere and play some Wii or PS3 and stop trying to be grown. WTF!

Case In Point: Just right now, I seen a profile of an underaged user (11 year old kid white kid) who claims to be from Tiawan said he is a “Gangstah” and he was “raised in the streets, nigga” followed by “I’ll fuck you up if yo cracka ass messes with me”….Can we say “identity crisis”??

Behind The Music

So the soap opera that is my life running this record label (with my cousin) continues…the world keeps spinning and so do these artists heads….With respect to the artist that I deal with, I will refrain from using their real names when venting with hopes of not hurting their fragile little egos or causing unneeded drama. Let me properly frame the situation….hmmm….I went out and found this artist and started working with him, for the intents of this blog we are going to call him Dr. Doolittle. Because that’s what most of these artist do (little), and expect us as the label to do everything for them short of wiping their ass. And when we decide to make a business decision they wanna start a fuss and start trying to act like they are the ones losing sleep, breaking their backs for the label and their demands need to be met. When obviously it’s the other way around. I explained to Dr. Doolittle before we even started doing music , exactly what type of business we are running and what we expect from him as an artist and what he can expect from us as the record label. With all that said, he claimed he understand and we start working together . Dr. Doolittle whom we are writing, producing and recording all of his music has finished a whopping 2 songs in the first 2 months of the 90 day trail period that we have him under before we decide to sign him. And we’re thinking that everything is going fine, we would obviously like to have finished more music finished but we trying to allow the artist to get into a rhythm and not rush him. So one session the artists, Dr. Doolittle (22) says that one of the songs we gave him to sing is too mature because it mentions sex. He said that he didn’t want to sing the song because it may alienate him from the younger audience. And we are like What?? Its plenty of artists with young audiences that mention sex….Chris Brown (18) “Take You Down”, Pretty Ricky got a whole song about Phone Sex, Ciara in her song “Promise” said she wanna ride it….So that’s completely inaccurate and just a showing of the artist narrow mindedness and lack of knowledge on how the business really works. But we don’t wanna be jerks or assholes, so we like O.K. kid we'll work with you, and we agreed that we can tone the shit down. Even though we knew the artist was wrong. But we came to an amicable agreement anyway or at least we thought we did.

Next thing we know the artist doesn’t show up to his next studio session, stops answering the phone and stops returning our emails. So we're sitting here confused like "what is going on?", and then his manager calls us and wants to talk about the artists creative control. Creative Control???? 2 songs in 2 months, 0 money earned, Hours of unpaid studio time racked up, No records sold, the artist is in the Red (in debt) and Dr. Doolittle is demanding creative control?? We're not unreasonable men, but we are not going to grant creative control to unproven artists who don’t even have their facts straight. So the manager’s argument for why Dr. Doolittle should have creative control is because that’s just the way he is.…..WTF? That’s it…that’s all you got, nigga please….this Is a business, I don’t give a fuck about that shit. I have to do plenty of shit in this business that I may not want to do and I wont put the burden on the artist, I'll suck It up and keep the ship moving forward because that’s what it takes to be successful. Cant Stop, Wont Stop ( I hate to quote a puffy song but its true).

A MUST FOR SITUATIONS LIKE THIS (800 MG's)

Then the manager starts griping about how the artist doesn’t want to drive home late at night after the studio sessions, so can we move the studio sessions to an earlier time…..FUCK NO….Niggaz got jobs, if our jobs let us off @ 9 then the studio session is at 9:30 and that’s out of our control. But who cares about staying late in the studio, If you’re really trying to make it in this industry then you will stay late, sleep in the damn studio if that’s what it takes to get a major label deal. There are hundreds of thousands of artists and new ones poppin’ up everyday that are all competing for the same plate of food. This is an ultra competitive industry! You have to be willing to work harder than the next man or you will be passed up…I guarantee.

Hard work beats talent, when talent don’t work hard!

Cut the shit. When this is something you truly love, then its not work. I love to do this shit, so staying up late nights, over night, in the studio 2 days in a row non-stop, its nothing to me. Difficult takes a day, Impossible takes a week, I can do this is my sleep. Because I'm focused, determined and humble enough to work for free now, so that in the future I can get paid to do this. You wanna know about humility and hard work read Russell Simmons book “Do You: 12 Laws Of Success”. It’s a great read and its very inspirational. A must read for anyone thinking of getting into the music industry on any level.

Back to the story so the manager says he is going to discuss the things we talked about with Dr. Doolittle and he’s going to call us back. Its been a week and we haven’t heard shit, no returned phone calls, no returned email. Nothing. Honestly, I still don’t have a problem with the artist, if he wants to come back and work hard with this music and understand his role he is welcome. But obviously since he hasn’t contacted us then that must not be what he wants to do. Looks like another 2 months wasted and the search for the next American Idol continues……
